Core Principle: No Data Selling. Ever.
bonuz does not sell user data. The bonuz ID is self-custodial β users own their identity, their engagement history, and their social graph. This data is never packaged, profiled, or sold to advertisers. This is a non-negotiable design principle, not a marketing claim.
Traditional ad-tech platforms monetize by extracting user data and selling it to the highest bidder. bonuz takes the opposite approach: promotions are opt-in, contextual, and minimal β designed to add value to the user experience rather than exploit it.
How Promotions Work in bonuz
bonuz keeps advertising intentionally lightweight. The platform is an engagement and identity layer, not an ad network. That said, there are natural surfaces where brands and dApps benefit from increased visibility β and where users benefit from discovering relevant activations.
Discovery Placement Bidding
The bonuz app includes a Discovery section β a curated view of dApps, campaigns, Quests, brands, and activations available within the ecosystem. As the ecosystem grows, this becomes valuable real estate.
Brands and dApps integrated into bonuz can bid to be highlighted in the Discovery feed. This works similarly to promoted listings in app stores or featured placements in marketplace platforms:
Bid-based ranking β Brands bid for premium placement in Discovery. Higher bids earn more prominent positioning.
Fair distribution β Unlike winner-take-all auction models, bonuz uses proportional allocation. Every bidding participant receives visibility proportional to their bid, ensuring fair access for smaller brands alongside large ones.
Contextual, not invasive β Promoted placements appear as highlighted cards within the Discovery feed, clearly marked. No pop-ups. No interstitials. No autoplay video ads.
Payment flexibility β Discovery bids can be paid in fiat, stablecoins, or $BONUZ tokens.
In-App Banners (Minimal)
Select surfaces within the bonuz app may display minimal banner placements β for example, within the dApp browser or Discovery feed. These are:
Clearly labeled as sponsored content.
Limited in frequency β bonuz prioritizes user experience over ad revenue.
Non-intrusive β no full-screen takeovers, no mid-action interruptions.
The goal is to surface relevant activations (a new Quest from a brand the user has engaged with, a campaign in their city, a new dApp in their interest area) rather than generic advertising.
Real-World Activations
As bonuz scales its real-world engagement tools β Quests, Proof of Visit, location-based vouchers β a real-world promotions layer will emerge. This includes:
Geo-targeted Quest campaigns β A restaurant chain can sponsor a city-wide Quest that routes users through participating locations. The sponsorship fee covers featured placement in the Quest discovery feed and priority push notifications for users in the area.
Event activations β Brands sponsoring festivals, conferences, or city events can bid for prominent bonuz integration β featured Quest placement, branded Proof of Participation collectibles, and discovery-feed visibility during the event window.
Local discovery β As bonuz builds out location-aware features, nearby businesses and activations can be surfaced based on proximity β with promoted placements available for brands willing to bid for higher visibility.
All real-world promotions are tied to genuine engagement β they drive users to do something (visit, participate, complete a Quest) rather than passively consume an ad.
AR Promotions (Next Layer)
As bonuz extends into AR and spatial computing through the Next Layer roadmap, new promotional surfaces become available in augmented reality:
AR-visible sponsored content β When users engage with bonuz in AR mode (scanning locations, completing spatial Quests, interacting with Proof of Visit checkpoints), brands can sponsor AR overlays that appear in context. A restaurant's AR marker could highlight today's special. A museum's AR experience could feature a sponsor's branded collectible.
Spatial ad placements β In AR environments, physical space becomes a canvas. Brands can bid for AR visibility at specific locations β a virtual billboard at a concert venue, a branded AR portal at a shopping district, a sponsored AR treasure hunt across a city.
Engagement-gated visibility β AR promotions can be tied to bonuz engagement levels. Complete a brand's Quest? Their AR content unlocks for you. This creates a promotional model where attention is earned through engagement, not purchased through interruption.
AR promotions represent the most experimental layer of the bonuz promotional model and will be developed in partnership with spatial computing platforms as the technology matures.
Revenue Model Alignment
Promotional revenue is one component of bonuz's broader revenue model, alongside SaaS subscription fees (B2B dashboard access) and protocol fees (on-chain transactions). It is intentionally the smallest component β bonuz is an engagement infrastructure company, not an advertising company.
The promotional model is designed to:

Timeline
Discovery placement bidding and minimal in-app banners are planned for deployment as the ecosystem reaches sufficient scale to make promotional surfaces valuable. Real-world activation sponsorships will roll out alongside bonuz's expanding Quest and Proof of Visit infrastructure. AR promotions are a future-layer initiative tied to the Next Layer roadmap.
